PLASTIC RECYCLING
PLASTIC RECYCLING
The plastic recycling project is one of the main long term GreenLife strategies for the Andaman Islands.
The project is to deal with 80 tons of plastic per week coming to Andaman via mainland India. The plastic comes in all forms soda bottles, chairs, computers etc; with no recycling program in the Andaman we are setting up recycling plants in all the major populated areas. At present plastic is dealt with by landfill sites, backyard burning, dumping in pristine jungles etc;
The biggest problem faced dealing with plastics on the islands are with the logistics of collecting the different types of plastics on different islands then separating and transporting the items to the recycle plant in Port Blair this is a huge task!
We will need support in this work in the coming years as we are only scratching the surface of this problem for this island.
The facts remain there is no solution for plastics as they are very damaging to the environment the only thing we are doing is processing the plastic and breaking it down into fragments and transporting to mainland India to be used in making new products. We do not want to manufacture or make any production of any kind for plastics on the islands all we want is to send it back to where it arrived from and keep the Andaman and Nicobar Islands in its natural pristine condition.
