CORAL REEFS
GreenLife has been documenting the coral reefs at five sites in Andaman Islands for the past five years. The documentation is by species distribution using traditional transects systems and using photo ID as a method of documentation.
Conditions of pre and post Tsunami has also been documented on the islands the work to map a continuous site over a number years will help understand recovery rates of corals after natural disasters.
In collaboration with Coral Reef Alliance activities of clean ups and awareness have been conducted with local dive clubs, fishermen, school children, scientists, government bodies and tourists.

Facts on Corals:
•The term 'coral' refers to a number of different animals. These include hard corals, sea fans, sea feathers, sea pens, sea pansies, organ pipe coral, black coral, soft corals, fan corals whip corals.
•Properly managed coral reefs can yield an average of 15 tonnes of fish and other seafood per square kilometer each year
•Southeast Asia's coral reef fisheries alone are estimated to yield US$ 2.4 billion annually
•Occupying less than one quarter of 1% of the marine environment, coral reefs are home to more than 25% of all known marine fish species
•58% of the world's coral reefs are potentially threatened by human activity
